Prime Minister IMRAN KHAN announced a 1100 Billion package for Karachi as rains wreak havoc to infrastructure.
Drainage and sewerage is the most highlighted and unsolved issue of Karachi.
It is discussed in every monsoon season as streets goes flooded after rains and causing much trouble for the people of Karachi.
In the following season number of deaths were recorded as record breaking rains left whole of Karachi flooded and garbage floating over streets and main highways.
Prime Minister Imran Khan chaired a meeting in his visit to Karachi with local provincial bodies including CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah.
PM announced a 1100 billion package for different projects to be completed in next 8 years.
The plan would be implemented and observed under Provincial Coordination Implementation Committee (PCIC).

Who Will Pay These Huge Funds
PPP chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari welcomed the decision made by federal government.
He claimed in a press conference that Sindh Government is paying 800 billion in the project.
Later, in a statement Federal Minister Asad Umer cleared the confusion.
He said, Federal Government was paying 62% and Sindh government was paying 38%.
But if Provincial government is ready to pay the big amount then we will not weaken the spirit of the package with politics.
Size of package announced for Karachi is equal to the total defense budget of Pak Army.
We can say that its a massive package and main point to think is that how these funds will be managed.
How Funds Will Be Generated
Federal government on Monday released the details of the funds in order to complete the Karachi Transformation Plan (KPT).
Federal government has requested the Supreme Court to use the 125 billion rupees received in settlement of Bahria Town Case by Malik Riaz.
Hence the total will reach 736 billion by the federal government and rest of funds will be managed by Sindh Government.
The federal government will manage extra 300 billion rupees in the next three years.
Moreover Public Private Partnerships will be encouraged to complete the projects.
Government is looking for immediate start of the projects that are more important and taking them to the top priority needs.

Projects To Be Completed Under KPT
Ministry of Planning & Development has shared the details of the projects and funds allocated to them after meetings held.
There are five major projects included in the Karachi transformation plan:
- 92 Billion Rupees will be used for the water supply projects in the whole city of Karachi.
- 267 Billion Rupees will be used for Solid Waste Management.
- 141 Billion Rupees will be allocated for Sewage treatment.
- 41 Billion Rupees will be allocated for construction and restoration of roads and highways.
- 572 Billion Rupees will be allocated for the Transportation system including Karachi circular railway project.
Details of K-IV Water Project
Greater Karachi water supply project k-IV has already 20% work completed.
Its foundation stone was laid in 2016 but due to slow rate of work it seemed tough to be completed but now it will be on full swing.
260 million gallons clean water per day will be provided to people of Karachi building a 121 KM canal system from “Keenjhar Lake to Karachi”.
previously this project faced so much hurdles due to the increase in constriction cost, feasibility, design and route of the project.
Few months ago all the major problems were resolved after meetings with professional consultants.
Both Centre and Sindh government will jointly complete the Phase-I of the K-IV project.
It will provide the immediate relief to city over this long lasting problem.
Experts are hoping that these massive projects will revive the lifeline of people of Karachi.
It’s no secret that people of Karachi are facing problems.
Their basic necessities are neglected by the local governments by years.
The need of hour is to make a master plan while keeping in mind the needs of next several decades.
Spirit of this transformation package should be achieved in true meanings.
Hopefully Karachi would be able to restore its position among the beautiful cities of the world.
